Pixoto Stock and Print Submission Guidelines

Image Properties

  • Images must not be upsized
  • We accept .jpgs only
  • No watermarks (including any text or date embedded in the image)
  • NO VERY SIMILAR IMAGES: You may submit an unlimited number of images but each one must be significantly different from the others. This means only one image of any subject and scene/pose combination is allowed. The only exceptions are that you may have a duplicate of a color photo in the black and white category and you may use other images you have submitted to create unique works of digital art. You may delete an image and resubmit it at any time. If reported, and we agree that the images are not distinct enough, the newer image will be deleted. This is critical for keeping the Pixoto community vibrant, exciting and fun.

Keywording/Tagging Guidlines:

  • Properly keywording your images is the most important thing you can do to get sales on Pixoto
  • Use common words that designers or editors would be looking for
  • Keyword themes that your photos illustrate (e.g. competition, anger, laughter, etc.)
  • Keyword in English – we will add keyword translation in the future

Title/Caption/Description Guidelines:

  • Make sure your titles describe all of the important elements in the image using common language.
  • Your description should add depth and color to your title and describe why your image is unique and different (i.e. should make your image more attractive to designers)

Contributor Guidelines

  • You must wholly own all images submitted to Pixoto. In addition you, or someone in a company owned by you, must have actually taken the photograph or created the image.
  • Submissions to be designated for commercial licensing must NOT contain any copyrighted material including paintings, other copyrighted photos, copyrighted logos, or any other art/advertisements/sculptures/exhibits or audio which are copyrighted. If submitted material contains any of these or other types of copyrighted content, you must either submit releases from the copyright owners or you must mark the images as editorial.
  • Submissions depicting a minor must be accompanied by a model release that was signed by that minor's parent or legal guardian. If you do not have a model release and your image is newsworthy or culturally significant, we will accept the image for editorial use only - meaning that it will not be available for any commercial use.
  • Submissions submitted for editorial use must be "newsworthy" (i.e. they might be used effectively in a news story). Generic snapshots and portraits are not newsworthy and will not be accepted as editorial.
  • These guidelines may change at any time. This page can be found within the 'Legal Forms and Info' section at pixoto.com/become-a-stock-contributor.
  • We reserve the right to remove any previously accepted submission at any time for any reason from the Pixoto library.
  • Make sure to categorize your images correctly according to the category definitions located at: http://blog.pixoto.com/category-descriptions/. Miss-categorized images will be re-categorized and all ImageScore and ImageDuel history will be lost
  • Any image of an identifiable person must be accompanied by a model release. A model release form is available on our site or you may use another form that you may already have (however under no circumstances may it be more restrictive than ours. Release forms must be uploaded in .jgp or .pdf format on Pixoto.com when submitting the image for review. For submissions containing nude content of artistic value, the model must look at least 25 years of age and the submission must be accompanied by a photo ID of the model. The decision to accept or reject an image containing nudity will be made according to the sole discretion of Pixoto. Never submit any explicit material. Submissions must not extreme violence, x-rated content, or any illegal content according to US law.

Common Rejection Reasons

  • Copyrighted material in the image
  • Images are very similar to others in your portfolio
  • Images have been upsized
  • Improper keywording
  • Offensive content
  • No model release
  • Watermarks

Warning System

Unlike other stock photography sites we rely on our members to submit appropriate images for purchase and do not review every image (our community takes care of the quality by showing the best image first). That said there are some things that can not be easily caught during ImageDuel (like focus, model releases borders, etc.). If you submit images that are out of compliance with the above guidelines you will receive a warning that will be visible (to you only) on your Profile page. If you receive 5 warnings your account will be suspended.

Note: No warnings will be given for copyright infringement, as we have a zero tolerance policy.
